Affinity files
Open .afphoto, .afdesign and .af files in your browser. Pixel layers come in; for everything else, export a PSD.
koi.photo can open files from Affinity Photo, Affinity Designer, Affinity Publisher and the newer Affinity app (.afphoto, .afdesign, .afpub, .aftemplate and .af), but only in a basic version. Affinity files use a closed format that isn't documented, so koi.photo reads just the most important parts. The file is read in your browser and never uploaded.
What you get
When you open or drop an Affinity file, a dialog shows its preview and explains the options. Click Open and koi.photo picks the best import it can do:
- Pixel layers: when the document is made of pixel layers (RGB, 8 or 16 bits per channel), they open as layers with their names, position, visibility and opacity. Layers nested inside a pixel layer stay clipped to it, and groups stay groups.
- Just the preview: for everything else (vector shapes, text, adjustments, live filters, layer effects, masks, CMYK documents) koi.photo opens the small preview image stored in the file, at most 512 px wide.
koi.photo checks every layer import against the file's own preview. If the result doesn't match, you get the preview instead, so you never get a picture that looks wrong without knowing it. Either way, a banner at the bottom says what was left out; click View for the details.
For all layers: export a PSD
To keep layers, masks, adjustments and text editable, save a PSD from Affinity and open that instead:
Export from Affinity
In Affinity, choose File ▸ Export, pick PSD and select the PSD (Preserve Editability) preset. For a CMYK document, convert it to RGB first (Document ▸ Convert Format / ICC Profile).
Open the PSD in koi.photo
Drop the .psd file on koi.photo. See PSD files for what carries over.
FAQ
Can koi.photo save Affinity files? No. Save your work as a .koi file, or export a PSD to take it back to Affinity.
Why did only a small image open? The file contains things koi.photo can't read yet, or its layers didn't match the preview. Export a PSD from Affinity for the full document.
Affinity is a trademark of Serif (Europe) Ltd / Canva. koi.photo isn't affiliated with or endorsed by them; the name is used only to say which files koi.photo can open.
